Scheduling a Baptism

for infants and children 6 years or younger

Requirements

1. Parish Registration: Parents of the child to be baptized should be registered members of Saint Brigid Church. If you are not registered, please register at the Parish Office or complete the online registration form on the Saint Brigid website: www.saintbrigid.org 

2.  Baptism Class: Parents are required to attend a Baptism Preparation Class before the baptism.

Baptism Classes at Saint Brigid are offered on the third Sunday of each month from 3:15pm to 4:30pm in the Adoration Chapel.   You can receive credit for a previously attended class only if it was within the past two years. T

To Reserve your Class:  Please reserve your space in a particular class by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or calling the parish office at 678-393-0060.  Include your names and the date of the class you wish to attend.

Class at a Different Parish:  You may attend a baptism preparation class at another parish. However, prior to the Baptism ceremony, you must provide a letter from that parish indicating the date and time of the class you attended.

Scheduling a Baptism– time and place

Baptisms at Saint Brigid are usually scheduled in the Adoration Chapel on

Saturdays mornings: at 9:45 am, 10:30 am, 11:15 am, 12 noon,

Saturday afternoons:  12:45 pm, 1:30 pm, 2:15pm, 3:00 pm and 3:45 pm

Sunday afternoons: at 1:45 pm, 2:30 pm, 3:15 pm and 4:00 pm

The Baptism party should arrive at the church approximately 10 to 15 minutes before the scheduled time. We recommend that you check with invited friends and family members before selecting a specific date.

Visiting Clergy

If you wish to ask a Priest or Deacon from outside the parish to officiate at the baptism, please contact your clergy first to confirm his willingness and availability. Requirements for Sponsors (Godparents)

It is an ancient custom of the Church that a Sponsor (or Godparent) is present at the celebration of the sacrament of Baptism. Godparents represent the expanded spiritual family of the child, and help the parents profess the faith chosen for their children. A Godparent is a person who assumes, along with the parents, theresponsibility for the child’s faith. The purpose is to ensure that the rich and beautiful faith of the Catholic Church is passed on to the child in the most loving and authentic way possible.

At least one of the Godparents must meet the following requirements

   - Be a practicing Catholic and a member of a parish.   

        - Be at least 16 years of age.     

        - Have received the Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation in the Catholic Church.   

        - Cannot be the child’s mother or father.

        - Provide a certificate signed by their pastor attesting to the fulfillment of these requirements.

Baptismal Gown, Candle and Certificate

Children receiving the Sacrament of Baptism should be dressed in a white gown. The Parish will provide the Baptismal Candle, in addition to a Baptismal Bib, as a symbolic gift from the Parish. These are yours to keep as a reminder of this joyous milestone.

A Baptismal Certificate for your child will be mailed to you approximately 10-14 days following the ceremony. Please note that the Baptismal Certificate will reflect the mother’s maiden (baptismal) name.  Please keep the certificate in a safe place with other important documents for future reference. 

Duplicate Certificates

A duplicate certificate can be provided up request.  Please allow at least 10-14 days for the certificate to be prepared and signed by the pastor.  Parents are responsible for providing a copy of the Baptism certificate when enrolling their children in religious education programs or parochial schools.  Please send the completed form  "Duplicate Certificate Request" to This email address is being protected from spambots.
