My brothers and sisters in Christ;
We continue to monitor media reports about the Coronavirus. The recent revelations of additional cases in Georgia in the past week have increased our need to be vigilant and proactive. At this time, we continue to take steps we deem appropriate to reduce our risks to our parishioners and visitors.
We have previously suspended the distribution of the Precious Blood at Communion time during the flu season. Effective immediately, we will also discontinue the exchange of peace at all Masses until further notice. We continue to instruct our Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion to use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer immediately before distributing the Eucharist.
The Archdiocese of Atlanta recommends that parishioners receive only in their hands, and not on their tongue; in light of the heightened concern of random transmission and the likelihood that more people will be affected in Georgia. The Holy Water fonts are temporarily covered as an additional precaution.
All Masses will continue as scheduled, however, recognizing the grave cause of the current public health emergency, Bishop Konzen has dispensed all the Catholic faithful of the Archdiocese of Atlanta from the obligation of attending Sunday Mass for the weekends of March 14th-15th, 21st-22nd and 28th- 29th. His instructions also state that individuals who are not feeling well should stay home.
It is generally recommended that individuals above the age of 60 who have pre-existing medical conditions or ongoing illnesses and vulnerabilities should consider being cautious about large group contact or exposing themselves to potential sources of infection by a virus.
The flu continues to be a concern in Georgia in addition to this new virus. The Archdiocese suggests that good hygiene and common sense are our best defenses against the spread of illness in our communities. As a safety precaution, due to the fluid nature of the current Coronavirus pandemic, effective MONDAY, MARCH 16th, the following events and classes at Saint Brigid will be canceled until further notice.
– PSR, EDGE, RCIA-RCIC
– Life Teen, LTE, and Confirmation
– Adult Education Classes
– All scheduled ministry meetings
– The Parish Penance Service scheduled for April 2nd is also canceled.
ADORATION SCHEDULES AND FRIDAY STATIONS OF THE CROSS WILL CONTINUE AS USUAL.
We will determine the use of online classes, as needed.
We appreciate your commitment to our ministries, courses, and meetings and we ask for your cooperation as we implement these precautions to help keep our community healthy.
We continue to take steps that we believe to be reasonable and prudent to respond to this on-going and fluid situation and we will continue to interact with appropriate representatives of the Archdiocese to keep you updated.
Thank you and God bless you.
