Good news to report
On the 28th of January, at the City Hall of Johns Creek, Saint Brigid was awarded the Special Use Permit that we needed in order to purchase the “Hamil property”, the property on Old Alabama Road that is situated between the bank and the parish. Between 150 and 200 parishioners, all wearin’ the green of Saint Brigid were in attendance, in support of our efforts. So, why is this good news for us?
At the founding of this parish, then Fr. Joe Corbett knew that we would need more land. A parish that was expanding as Saint Brigid did during the early years would need additional space…to build what a great parish needs. Fr. Joe and the strong lay-leadership of the parish did all they could; but it was not until the passing of the patriarch of the Hamil family that the sons agreed to sell the property to the Archdiocese.
So, the good news is that we will be able to expand our parish by two acres. And with this expanded property, we will have a chance to move forward with the planning of a projected construction project…a project that is geared to provide for the spiritual and social needs of our children, our teens, our married couples, our single adults, our seniors.
When Andrew’s brother Simon declared his faith in Jesus, saying to him You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God (Matthew 16.16), Jesus responded, saying to Simon…you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church (Matthew 16.18) .
Simon declared his faith in Jesus of Nazareth. We, the parish family of Saint Brigid, as members of this world-wide Catholic Church, we too declare our faith in the Lord Jesus. And the project that we will look to in the near future…that of creating the space and the place for our ongoing renewal … will give us the ability to build upon this rock…the rock of faith…the rock that is Peter and the whole apostolic Church.
