Worship in Spirit and Truth

At the Last Supper, on the night he was betrayed, our Savior instituted the Eucharistic sacrifice of his Body and Blood. This he did in order to perpetuate the sacrifice of the cross throughout the ages until he should come again, and so to entrust to his beloved Spouse, the Church, a memorial of his death and resurrection: a sacrament of love, a sign of unity, a bond of charity, a Paschal banquet 'in which Christ is consumed, the mind is filled with grace, and a pledge of future glory is given to us.' - CCC 1323

"But the time is coming, nay, has already come, when true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth; such men as these the Father claims for his worshippers.  God is a spirit, and those who worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth." - John 4:23-24

The tradition which I received from the Lord, and handed on to you, is that the Lord Jesus, on the night when he was being betrayed, took bread, and gave thanks, and broke it, and said, Take, eat; this is my body, given up for you.  Do this for a commemoration of me.  And so with the cup, when supper was ended, This cup, he said, is the new testament, in my blood.  Do this, whenever you drink it, for a commemoration of me.  So it is the Lord's death that you are heralding, whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, until he comes. - 1 Corinthians 11:23-26
